Can I Add a Battery to My Existing Solar?
In most cases, yes. The majority of grid-connected solar systems in Adelaide can have a battery added. Already Have SolarEdge or Enphase?
Sigenergy can be an excellent battery upgrade option for homes with existing SolarEdge or Enphase solar systems. Using the Sigen Energy Gateway Smart Port, compatible existing solar inverters can be integrated with the battery and backup system, often allowing you to keep your existing solar installation.
During a blackout, the existing solar inverter may briefly shut down before restarting. Once it comes back online, your solar can continue powering the home first and then charging the battery with excess solar, depending on the inverter model and system configuration.

Have a Two-Phase Home?
Sigenergy can be a particularly useful option for two-phase properties. Its flexible system architecture gives us more options when designing battery storage around homes with two-phase electrical supplies and existing solar.

Is your existing solar system big enough?
Battery capacity should be matched to your solar generation and household consumption. If your existing solar system is small or older, you may benefit from adding additional panels when installing a battery. Makn Energy can review your electricity bill and existing system before recommending battery capacity.
Adding more solar at the same time
Installing additional solar panels alongside a battery is often the most cost-effective approach. A larger solar system generates more surplus to store, improving your return on investment. We can quote a combined solar and battery upgrade if your existing system is undersized.
Blackout backup — what you need to know
Battery storage and blackout backup are not automatically the same thing. If you want your home or selected circuits to operate during a grid outage, the system needs to be specifically designed with backup capability and the appropriate electrical configuration. We offer both essential-load backup and whole-home backup options where technically suitable.
Battery rebates and finance
Eligible battery installations in South Australia may qualify for current government battery incentive programs. Eligibility and incentive amounts depend on the system, installer accreditation and current program rules — we don't quote outdated or guaranteed amounts.
