Need Solar as Well?
Makn Energy also offers complete solar + battery packages. Installing solar and battery together can provide a simple way to generate, store and manage more of your home's electricity.
Prices are starting prices after applicable incentives and are based on standard installation conditions. Final pricing depends on battery capacity, inverter requirements, existing solar, electrical supply, backup configuration, switchboard requirements and site conditions.
Why Add a Battery to Your Solar System?
A home battery allows you to store excess solar energy generated during the day and use it later when your home needs it. This can reduce the amount of electricity you purchase from the grid and help you get more value from your solar system.
Use More of Your Solar
Store available excess solar generation instead of exporting all of it to the grid, then use that stored energy later.
Reduce Grid Electricity Use
Use stored energy during the evening, overnight or higher-cost tariff periods to reduce reliance on electricity purchased from the grid.
Blackout Backup Options
Compatible battery systems can provide backup power during outages when appropriately designed and configured.
Smart Energy Management
Modern battery systems can automatically manage solar, battery and grid electricity based on household consumption and system settings.
Solar + EV Charging
A battery can form part of an integrated solar and EV charging system, helping you make better use of the electricity generated at home.
Prepare for the Future
Battery storage can reduce exposure to changing electricity tariffs and provide greater control over how and when your home uses electricity.
How Does a Solar Battery Work?
A home battery stores electricity so you can use it when you need it. When paired with solar, it allows your home to use more of the energy your solar panels generate instead of exporting excess electricity to the grid.
Generate
Your solar panels generate electricity during the day.
Solar energy is used to power your home first.
Store
Excess solar charges your battery.
Instead of exporting all unused solar to the grid, available excess energy can be stored for later.
Use
Your battery powers the home when solar production drops.
Stored energy can be used during the evening, overnight or during higher-cost electricity periods, depending on how the system is configured.
Grid & Backup
The grid remains available when required.
If solar and battery energy aren't sufficient, the home can draw electricity from the grid. Compatible battery systems can also provide backup power during outages when appropriately designed and configured.
Your home uses available solar first — excess solar can then charge the battery.
Already Have Solar?
You may still be able to add battery storage to your existing system. Makn Energy can assess your current inverter, solar capacity, switchboard and electrical supply and recommend the most suitable battery configuration.
What Size Home Battery Do I Need?
The right battery size depends on how much electricity your home uses after the sun goes down, the size of your solar system, your electricity tariff, backup requirements and how much energy you want available overnight.
Bigger isn't automatically better. Makn Energy sizes battery storage around how your home actually uses electricity.
10–16kWh
Smaller Homes & Lower Evening Usage
A good starting point for households wanting to store excess solar and reduce evening grid electricity use.
Commonly suited to
16–24kWh
Most Adelaide Family Homes
A popular range for households with larger solar systems and moderate-to-high evening electricity consumption.
Commonly suited to
24–40kWh+
High Energy Usage & Larger Homes
Larger battery systems can suit highly electrified homes with substantial solar generation and higher overnight electricity requirements.

We'll Size It From Your Electricity Bill
Instead of guessing your battery size, send us a recent electricity bill. Where available, we can also use your smart-meter or interval consumption data to understand when your home actually uses electricity.
These battery sizes are general examples only. The appropriate battery capacity depends on individual household consumption, solar production, electrical supply and system design.
Home Battery Rebates in Adelaide
Save on Eligible Battery Storage with the Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program
Eligible Adelaide homeowners can reduce the upfront cost of installing home battery storage through the Australian Government's Cheaper Home Batteries Program.
The incentive is delivered through Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) and can be applied as an upfront discount on eligible battery installations.
Battery Systems from 5–100kWh
Eligible battery systems can have a nominal capacity between 5kWh and 100kWh.
Rebate Support up to 50kWh
Battery STCs can apply to the first 50kWh of usable battery capacity, subject to eligibility.
New or Existing Solar
Eligible batteries can be installed alongside a new solar system or added to an existing solar installation.
Rebate Applied Upfront
Makn Energy can calculate the applicable battery STC incentive and include it directly in your proposal, subject to eligibility.
The battery rebate changed from 1 May 2026.
The incentive is now tapered according to battery capacity, with greater support applying to the first portion of eligible battery storage. This makes correct battery sizing increasingly important.
Not Sure What Battery Size You Need?
Bigger isn't always better. We'll assess your solar production, electricity consumption, evening usage, tariff and backup requirements to recommend an appropriately sized battery.
Government incentives, STC values and eligibility requirements can change. Actual discounts depend on battery capacity, installation date, applicable STC value and program eligibility.
